Ranveer Singh faces new controversy over Hindu ritual performance

Updated on:

A complaint has been lodged against Ranveer at Bangalore’s High Grounds Police Station by local lawyer Prashant Methal.

(Web Desk)- Ranveer Singh, who was recently facing criticism for imitating Rishab Shetty, is now at the center of a new controversy.

A complaint has been lodged against the actor at Bangalore’s High Grounds Police Station by local lawyer Prashant Methal.

The complaint claims that Ranveer disrespected Hindu sacred traditions, specifically “Bhuta Kola” and “Deva,” thereby hurting religious sentiments. Police sources stated that an official FIR has not yet been filed, but pressure from Hindu extremist groups is increasing.

Reports indicate that an agitated crowd even attempted to surround the police station, though authorities managed to control the situation. Supporters of Hindutva ideology, however, are reportedly still looking for ways to escalate the matter.

Ranveer has remained silent on the issue, while his legal team is reportedly exploring possible responses. The controversy arose from his performance at the closing ceremony of a film awards show in Goa, where he mimicked Rishab Shetty’s character from the movie ‘Kantara’.

The act had already caused public outrage, prompting Ranveer to clarify on Instagram. “Brothers and sisters! My only intention was to appreciate Rishab Shetty’s performance” Ranveer stated. There was no question of insulting any tradition, culture, or belief.” Despite his clarification, the backlash persisted.

The Hindu Jana Jagruti Samiti has since filed a complaint accusing Ranveer of insulting the deity Devi Chamunda during his performance. As a result, he now faces separate legal cases in two states. Meanwhile, Singh continues to promote his newly released film, ‘Dhurandhar’. The situation highlights the delicate balance between creative expression and cultural sensitivities in the entertainment industry.
