India’s Souryaghya Singh Kushwaha becomes the youngest ever to earn an official FIDE rating at three years, seven months, surpassing Anish Sarkar’s record after defeating rated players.

NEW DELHI (Web Desk) - India’s Souryaghya Singh Kushwaha has become the youngest player in chess history to earn an official FIDE rating, achieving the milestone at just three years, seven months, and 20 days.

The nursery student from Madhya Pradesh secured a rapid rating of 1,572, surpassing fellow Indian Anish Sarkar, who held the previous record after earning his rating at three years, eight months, and 19 days in November last year.

To obtain a rating from the International Chess Federation (FIDE), a player must defeat at least one rated opponent. The rating reflects a player’s performance strength and differs from ranking.

In rapid chess, World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen leads the global charts with a rating of 2,824.

Kushwaha’s father, Siddharth Singh, expressed immense pride in his son’s achievement, saying the family hopes he will one day become a Grandmaster.

Competing across tournaments in his home state and other parts of India, Kushwaha defeated three rated players to earn his record-breaking score.

India continues to be a powerhouse in producing Grandmasters, with top stars including newly crowned World Champion Gukesh Dommaraju and five-time World Cup winner Viswanathan Anand.
