Toxic smog continues to blanket Punjab; Lahore's average AQI climbs to 279

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The toxic smog continues to blanket various cities of Punjab with Lahore ranked among the top ten most polluted major cities of the world, according to an international environmental monitoring website.

The provincial capital's average Air Quality Index (AQI) surged to an alarming 279 on Friday morning, with several localities witnessing dangerously high pollution levels.

Other cities in Punjab are also grappling with severe air pollution. Faisalabad's AQI reached 415, while Sialkot hit 373 and Multan AQI touched 328.

Air pollution in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has also reached extreme levels as AQI in Peshawar has touched 410.

Health experts have strongly advised citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and to wear masks for protection.
