Punjab’s senior minister announced the driving age is now 16, warned parents against allowing minors to drive, and highlighted strict traffic safety measures and an intensified anti-drug crackdown

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Punjab's Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced that the legal driving age in the province has been lowered to 16 years, a move that primarily aims at facilitating students.

In a statement, Aurangzeb warned that minors driving vehicles would be considered as dangerous as self-harm. If parents allow their children to drive, they will face strict legal consequences. She stressed that every life is valuable, and no one will be allowed to jeopardize themselves or others.

She emphasized that new road safety mechanisms are being activated to improve traffic discipline in Punjab. She also reiterated the government's zero-tolerance policy for traffic violations. She stated that accidents can only be reduced when individuals take responsibility for their actions.

Additionally, the senior minister said the government is running the toughest anti-drug campaign in history, which she described as not just a governmental action, but a social mission. Special spot checks in schools, colleges, and universities have been increased, and the fight against drug cartels will continue until the very end.

She also stated that a detailed mapping of drug networks has been completed, and drones are being used to identify secret supply points across the province.

Many active drug rings have already been exposed, and the arrests of 111 long-range drug networks reflect the government's strong commitment to this cause.
