PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) citizens have expressed full support for the federal government’s decision to repatriate illegal Afghan migrants, calling it a timely, necessary, and commendable step for national security and stability.
KP residents appreciated the government’s firm stance, stating that undocumented Afghan nationals should be returned to their country in accordance with the law. They noted that the government has ensured dignified repatriation by accommodating outgoing Afghan families in designated camps where essential facilities are being provided.
Speaking to local media, citizens said the federal government’s policy is “positive and praiseworthy,” highlighting that Pakistan has hosted Afghan refugees for more than four decades despite its own economic challenges. They added that while Pakistan extended unmatched hospitality, Afghan authorities have often shown hostility, including seeking support from India.
Residents urged the government not to grant further extensions to undocumented migrants, stressing that illegal Afghan nationals have deeply affected local businesses, job markets, and social environments.
Several citizens complained that many Afghans were running unregistered businesses and were allegedly involved in criminal activities, leading to increased security concerns in the province.
They emphasized that just as illegal foreigners are deported from other countries in compliance with law, Afghan migrants living in Pakistan without documentation should also return respectfully.
KP residents reiterated that repatriation is essential for restoring order and protecting local livelihoods, expressing confidence that the government’s decision aligns with the country’s long-term security and economic interests.
