KARACHI (Web Desk) – In Gulshan-e-Iqbal, several officials were suspended following the tragic death of a child who fell into an open sewer.
The suspended officers include senior officials from Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), District Municipal Corporation (DMC), Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB), and the Assistant Commissioner of Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
The Sindh Local Government Department issued the suspension notifications, acting on instructions from Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. Among those suspended are Imran Rajput (KMC Senior Director Municipal Services), Rashid Fayyaz (Assistant Engineer, Town Municipal Corporation), Waqar Ahmed (Executive Engineer, KWSB), Amir Ali Shah (Assistant Commissioner), and Salman Farsi (Mukhtiyar Kar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal).
A committee, formed under Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho, comprises SSP East DIG Admin Ahmed Nawaz Cheema and SSP Investigation Central Anum Tajammul.
The police stated that the committee will identify responsibility for the incident and submit its findings to the Karachi Police Chief upon completion of the inquiry.
As part of the probe, SSP Investigation Central visited the home of the deceased child. A police team met with the grieving family and began recording their statements.
Meanwhile, the Red Line BRT management clarified its position regarding the incident at Nipa. The BRT manager stated that no BRT construction or excavation work was ongoing near the accident site, which is significantly distant from the Red Line project. The road construction is complete and maintained, and sewer or drainage responsibilities do not fall under BRT jurisdiction. The manager added that linking the incident to the BRT project is a serious misunderstanding.
