LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab’s ongoing crackdown on underage riders, unlicensed motorcyclists, and those driving without helmets has led to dozens of arrests and the impounding of several motorcycles across the province. Officials say the campaign aims to ensure road safety and put a stop to underage driving, which has long been a thorn in the authorities’ side.
Meanwhile, the public has reacted in a mix of serious concern and light-hearted humor. Social media has been flooded with videos showing people wearing helmets while working, walking, and even sleeping, all in an attempt to “stay out of trouble” and avoid heavy fines.
One video, which quickly went viral, shows a donkey-cart owner riding along the road with a helmet on his head—and another one on his donkey. When asked by the person filming why both were wearing helmets, the man replied, “I was fined earlier, so now I don’t take any chances.”
The video sparked a wave of comments. Some users said the public “can’t stay serious about anything,” while others insisted that wearing a helmet is no joke and should not be made fun of, as it concerns life and safety.
Another user, Muhammad Hammad, urged the Punjab Chief Minister to take action against such content, saying people were making a mockery of the law meant to save lives. The incident highlights how strict enforcement can sometimes lead to unexpected public reactions—some taking it seriously, while others find humor in the situation. As the saying goes, “Every coin has two sides.”
