Governor rule likely in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with four key names under consideration, including current Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, former CM Amir Haider Hoti, Pervez Khattak, and Aftab Sherpao.

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Preparations for imposing governor's rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are reportedly underway, with political and administrative circles considering several potential candidates for the post.

According to sources, the first name under consideration is current Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, who may continue performing his duties even under governor rule.

Other names being discussed include former chief minister Amir Haider Hoti, former defence minister Pervez Khattak, and Aftab Sherpao.

Sources also indicate that if consensus is not reached on any of these politicians, the names of retired Lieutenant General Ghayur and retired Lieutenant General Khalid Rabbani are also being considered.

The final decision is expected to be made soon as authorities aim to ensure a smooth transition of administrative powers under the governor rule.

Separately, State Minister for Law Aqeel Malik said on Sunday that the federal government was seriously considering imposing governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, citing poor governance, rising terrorism and the deteriorating border situation with Afghanistan.

“Move is being evaluated in view of national security and public safety, accusing the KP chief minister and his team of failing to ensure effective governance and coordination with the federation. Malik said governor’s rule may be imposed in cases of urgent necessity and claimed the current situation in KP warrants such a step,” he added.

He added that under the Constitution, the president can impose governor’s rule for an initial two months, extendable if required.

Meanwhile, KP Information Secretary Shafiq Jan warned of a strong reaction to any such move, saying the centre has the authority to change the governor but rejected allegations of collusion with terrorists, asking the federal government to present evidence.
