LARKANA (Web Desk) – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that PPP founder and former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto laid the foundation of democracy and the 1973 Constitution, calling it a turning point in Pakistan’s political history.

Addressing the PPP’s 58th foundation day ceremony via video link, Bilawal said the party’s history is deeply linked with Pakistan’s past and future. He said PPP has always stood with the middle class and underprivileged, working to strengthen them economically.

“This is the very philosophy on which our party was built,” he noted.

Bilawal said that after the judicial killing of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto carried her father’s mission forward and led the struggle for three decades.

“She fought for the restoration of democracy, for the Constitution her father created, and for the protection of people’s rights. She faced two dictators head-on and ultimately embraced martyrdom at Liaquat Bagh,” he added.

The PPP chairman said the party never let Benazir’s flag fall. Former president Asif Ali Zardari, he said, carried the mission forward and restored the Constitution through the historic 18th Amendment.

Bilawal highlighted that Zardari also transformed the philosophy of “Roti, Kapra aur Makan” by launching the Benazir Income Support Programme, which provided financial support to the poorest women in the country.

He added that Zardari renamed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, introduced the Aghaz-e-Huqooq-e-Balochistan package, and strengthened all provinces through a landmark NFC Award.

Bilawal went on to say that Pakistan gained international recognition after defeating India in the war that broke out in May. He claimed Pakistan’s armed forces and air force shot down seven Indian aircraft, giving the country a new global standing.

He said the PPP appreciates and celebrates the role of the government of the time, the foreign policy team, and the armed forces for “teaching India a lesson” and bringing victory to Pakistan.
