ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan and Egypt have agreed to strengthen political, defence and economic cooperation and to extend full support to each other in efforts to counter terrorism.
The understanding was reached during a joint press conference in Islamabad by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr Badr Ahmed Mohamed Abdelatty.
Speaking on the occasion, Ishaq Dar welcomed the Egyptian foreign minister to Pakistan and said the visit aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations. He said both sides agreed to enhance political dialogue, economic partnership and cooperation in defence and other sectors.
He added that Pakistan considers Egypt a key partner in the Muslim world and that the visit would further solidify bilateral ties. Pakistan will share a list of 250 business houses with Egypt, covering all sectors of the economy, in consultation with chambers of commerce and business federations. Another 250 companies will be added to the list after six months. A Pakistan–Egypt Business Forum will also be established, with its first meeting to be held in Egypt.
Dar said discussions were also held on regional and global issues, including Gaza, Jammu and Kashmir, and Afghanistan. He announced that Egypt has decided to double scholarships for Pakistani students, particularly at Al-Azhar University.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr Badr Abdelatty condemned recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan and expressed condolences over the loss of lives in Islamabad and Peshawar. He reaffirmed Egypt’s solidarity with Pakistan in the fight against terrorism and extremism and pledged full cooperation in this regard.
He said Pakistan and Egypt share strong and historic ties based on mutual respect and common interests. Both countries have agreed to expand cooperation in political dialogue, economic partnership, defence and other fields, while working to increase bilateral trade and promote joint investment, particularly in agriculture, pharmaceuticals and livestock.
Egypt seeks Pakistan’s role in Gaza reconstruction
Dr Abdelatty praised Pakistan’s unwavering support on multilateral forums and acknowledged Pakistan’s role in efforts related to the Gaza ceasefire. He said Egypt looks forward to Pakistan’s role and cooperation in the reconstruction of Gaza, stressing that the Palestine issue should be resolved in line with UN resolutions through a viable two-state solution.
Earlier, the Egyptian foreign minister arrived at the Foreign Office, where he was received by Ishaq Dar. The two later held delegation-level talks focusing on cooperation in economy, defence and other areas. Both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening long-standing brotherly relations and jointly addressing shared challenges.
