ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has stepped up audits of doctors, beauty parlors, and the paint sector in Pakistan’s big cities, including Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, in line with strict IMF conditions.

According to sources, the first phase will cover the income of 250 high-earning doctors in the three cities. At the same time, upscale beauty parlors and cosmetic sellers will also come under the FBR’s radar.

Private companies in the paint sector suspected of tax evasion will be scrutinized as well.

FBR has hired 600 private auditors to carry out these checks, and another 200 are expected to join in the coming days.

In total, around 2,000 private auditors will be engaged to ensure thorough audits. Sources said auditors are strictly bound to keep taxpayers’ information confidential.

The move signals the government’s push to bring more high-earning professionals and businesses into the tax net, aiming to increase revenue collection and reduce tax gaps, while following IMF requirements.
