ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday declared Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Ayub a proclaimed offender in the October 4 protest case.
ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra conducted the hearing against the former opposition leader. During the proceedings, the court also sought details of Ayub’s properties and ordered that his passport and national identity card be blocked.
It is worth mentioning that a case against Ayub was registered at Police Station Noon under anti-terrorism provisions for participating in the October 4 protest.
The former ruling party marched towards the federal capital as part of a series of protests demanding judicial independence and the release of its founder, Imran Khan, who has been held at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail for over a year.
The demonstrations led to violent clashes between protesters and law enforcement agencies (LEAs), with both sides accusing each other of initiating the confrontation.
On Saturday, police used tear gas against protesters in Islamabad and targeted convoys attempting to enter the capital, while party workers reportedly responded by hurling stones with slingshots at security personnel.
During the crackdown, law enforcement agencies arrested more than a hundred individuals, including Afghan nationals.
