Three personnel martyred in suicide attack on FC headquarters in Peshawar

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Three Federal Constabulary (FC) officials were martyred while three terrorists killed and five people, including two officials, injured in an attack on the headquarters in the Saddar area of the city on Monday morning.

According to Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Mian Saeed, three suicide bombers carried out the attack. One of them blew himself up at the gate at 8:10 in the morning. Three personnel stationed at the gate were martyred in the explosion.

Taking advantage of the blast, the two remaining attackers entered the building, he added.

The CCPO said the two attackers who entered inside were immediately killed by the FC officials.

Saddar Road was closed to all types of traffic soon after the attack, he continued.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Rescue services said, the injured have been shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, and their condition is stable.

Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, Zulfiqar Hameed, said that that two suicide blasts were carried out at the FC Headquarters in Saddar — one at the main gate and the other at the motorcycle stand.

The IG stated that two attackers were killed in the exchange of fire, while two FC personnel were injured.

According to sources, FC and Pakistan Army have launched an operation against the terrorists.

They stated that the blast occurred while a parade was taking place in the headquarters. As amny as 450 personnel were taking part in the parade.

Sources said early investigation revealed that three suicide attackers came on foot. They were wearing suicide jackets. The ages of the attackers were reported to be between 18 and 22 years, they added.

It has been indicated that the terrorists came with a planning and their target was the parade.

Police have also carried out a search operation in the area, and all entry and exit points have been completely sealed.

According to initial reports, the intensity of the blasts shattered the windows of nearby buildings.

Peshawar Deputy Commissioner Sanaullah said that all hospitals have been put on alert.

Pakistan's northwestern province Khybe Pakhtunkhwa and southern Balochistan have seen upsurge in terrorist activities recently. The Pakistan government said the attacks were carried out by the terrorists of outlawed outfits which are operating from the neighbouring Afghanistan.

PRESIDENT ZARDARI, PM SHEHBAZ CONDEMNS ATTACK

President Asif Ali Zaradri condemned the attack and offered "heartfelt" condolences with the families of the martyred officiala.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack on the FC Headquarters, saying that a major tragedy was averted due to the timely action of the security forces.

He prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.

The prime minister directed that those responsible for the incident be identified as soon as possible and brought to justice.
