LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Saturday emphasised the importance of accountability and transparency for good governance.

During a meeting with participants of the 27th National Security Workshop, she stated that without accountability, public sector performance remains stagnant, and good governance cannot be achieved.

During the meeting, CM Maryam updated the participants on Punjab's public welfare projects and responded to their questions. She talked about the challenges posed by the unequal distribution of resources and the ongoing efforts to mitigate the impacts of the recent floods, which have affected millions of people and livestock.

She highlighted her government's environmental efforts, particularly in controlling smog, and the successful initiatives such as the smog gun spray and the introduction of zig-zag technology in brick kilns. She also mentioned how air quality is improving due to better monitoring systems.

The chief minister also stressed the importance of merit-based appointments and transparency in governance, revealing that women are now working in significant roles as ministers, secretaries, commissioners, and deputy commissioners. She asserted that no political appointments are made in Punjab, emphasizing her commitment to merit and fair processes.

In terms of economic management, she noted that despite criticism, Punjab was the only province where prices of wheat, roti, and flour have not increased.

Furthermore, the inflation rate in the province has decreased from 40% to 4%, making daily life more affordable for the common people.
