LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab Drug Control Authority has declared several commonly used medicines, including multiple cough syrups, as substandard and has slapped an immediate ban on their sale across the province.
According to the official alert, various batches of widely used drugs failed to meet quality standards.
The most dangerous among them is Ericof Cough Syrup, found to contain an excessive amount of diethylene glycol, a toxic chemical that can seriously harm human health. Authorities have ordered its immediate recall from all markets and medical facilities.
Other products placed under the ban include Loratadine 10mg tablets, Cef Med 100mg, and several ointments. The Authority has instructed citizens, shopkeepers, and hospitals to “pull these products off the shelves” without delay and return them at once.
Meanwhile, hospitals across Punjab are witnessing a sharp rise in cases of flu, cough, dengue, and malaria, adding to concerns over public health.
Health experts have urged citizens to “stay on the safe side” by taking preventive measures such as avoiding handshakes, maintaining social distance, wearing masks, and boosting immunity through a balanced diet.
