(Web Desk) - Indian tennis icon Sania Mirza opens up, for the first time, about her struggles following separation from Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik.
Sania tied the knot with Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik in 2010. The former couple called it quits in early 2024, agreeing to co-parent their son, Izhaan Mirza Malik.
Sania, who moved to Dubai after her marriage, now carries the primary responsibility of caring for her son Izhaan. In a recent conversation with filmmaker and host Karan Johar, she admitted that balancing single parenthood with a demanding professional career has been one of the toughest phases of her life.
“Single parenting is very difficult for me,” she said. “We work, we travel, and we have so many responsibilities to manage at the same time.”
Karan Johar, who is also a single parent to twins Yash and Roohi, encouraged her to view the situation from another angle, saying that parenting alone can sometimes feel liberating because it removes the pressure of conflicting decision-making.

Sania also shared the emotional struggle she faces when leaving home for work. At times, she feels so overwhelmed that she avoids eating alone on difficult days to escape the feeling of loneliness. She added that balancing parental responsibilities with professional commitments becomes even more complicated when a child divides time between parents living in different countries.
Sania’s honest reflections resonate with countless single parents who juggle similar pressures while striving to maintain stability and emotional strength for their children.
