Cold intensifies as temperatures drop to 1°C in Balochistan

The early morning hours in Quetta were especially harsh, where the mercury dropped to a minimum of 1°C.

QUETTA (Dunya News) - Cold weather tightened its grip across central and northern Balochistan on Thursday as temperatures in several districts, including Quetta and Kalat, fell to 1°C, significantly increasing the chill.

According to the Meteorological Department, most parts of the province are expected to experience cold and dry weather throughout the day, with a further dip in temperatures likely in the northern belt.

The early morning hours in Quetta were especially harsh, where the mercury dropped to a minimum of 1°C, marking one of the coldest mornings of the season so far. Kalat also recorded a low of 1°C, while other districts observed relatively milder conditions: Sibi stood at 12°C, Nokundi at 9°C, and Gwadar’s coastal strip registered 14°C. The temperature in Jiwani remained comparatively moderate at 19°C due to maritime influence.

Local authorities urged residents to take care against the biting cold, especially in high-altitude areas where night temperatures are expected to dip even lower. Health experts also called upon citizens to keep themselves warm, particularly children and the elderly, as the risk of seasonal illnesses increases with the sudden fall in temperatures.

With winter tightening its hold, Balochistan's central and northern districts are bracing for colder days ahead as the dry winds continue to push temperatures down.
