ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Justice K.K. Agha has formally taken oath as judge of Pakistan’s Federal Constitutional Court, on Saturday.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Islamabad High Court, with Justice Aminuddin Khan, the head of the Federal Constitutional Court, administering the oath.

The event was attended by Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court, Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar, along with Federal Constitutional Court judges Justice Amir Farooq, Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi, and Justice Ali Baqar Najafi. The Federal Constitutional Court was established following the 27th Constitutional Amendment, with Justice Aminuddin Khan appointed as its first chief. Meanwhile, Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza of the Lahore High Court submitted his resignation today (Saturday).

Justice Shams Mehmood’s resignation follows similar moves by Supreme Court senior judges Mansoor Ali Shah and Athar Minallah, who also stepped down in protest over the 27th amendment, citing concerns over judicial independence.

The resignations come in the wake of widespread criticism that the 27th Amendment undermines the judiciary by placing it under the government’s control.
