DUBAI (Dunya News) – The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a fine on the Pakistan cricket team for maintaining a slow over rate during the first One-Day International (ODI) against Sri Lanka, played on Tuesday at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
According to the ICC statement, Pakistan were found to be four overs short of the target within the stipulated time. As a result, the side was fined 20 per cent of its match fee.
The sanction was imposed under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with minimum over-rate offences.
Pakistan edge Sri Lanka by 6 runs in first Rawalpindi ODI
The first match of the three-game ODI series witnessed Pakistan claiming a narrow six-run victory over Sri Lanka. Despite the win, the team’s over rate fell below the required pace, triggering the ICC’s automatic fine procedure.
Pakistan’s captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi, accepted the ICC decision without contesting the charge. The ruling came after on-field umpires reported the delay in the team’s bowling rate during the Rawalpindi encounter.
