ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Justice Aminuddin is reportedly expected to be appointed as the head of the Federal Constitutional Court.
According to sources, Chief Justice Yahya Khan Afridi hosted a dinner in honor of Justice Aminuddin Khan, which is scheduled to take place tomorrow at the Chief Justice House.
Supreme Court judges have also been invited to the event. Justice Aminuddin was originally set to retire on November 30.
The 27th Constitutional Amendment has already been passed by both houses of Parliament and, following the President’s signature, has become part of the Constitution.
Under the amendment, Article 176 now allows the incumbent Chief Justice to retain the title of Chief Justice of Pakistan until the completion of the tenure. Similarly, Article 255(2) has been amended to define the procedure for appointing the next Chief Justice of Pakistan. According to the amendment, the Chief Justice of Pakistan will be the most senior among the Chief Justices of the Supreme Court or the Federal Constitutional Court.
Additionally, the amendment provides that the President will appoint judges of the Federal Constitutional Court on the recommendation of the Prime Minister.
