Federal cabinet approves amendments to armed forces’ laws aligning them with 27th Constitutional Amendment, abolishing Joint Chiefs post and introducing new top military ranks.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has approved amendments to the Pakistan Army Act, Pakistan Air Force Act, and Pakistan Navy Act.

During the cabinet meeting, the prime minister thanked all ministers for their support in passing the 27th Constitutional Amendment, while the ministers congratulated him and gave a standing ovation on the occasion.

According to the official statement, the purpose of the amendments is to align the armed forces’ laws with the 27th Constitutional Amendment. Under the revised legislation, the post of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee will be abolished after the retirement of the incumbent chairman.

The amendments also introduce new honorary designations, including Field Marshal, Marshal of the Air Force, and Admiral of the Fleet.

Furthermore, the cabinet approved the draft of the Federal Constitutional Court (Procedure and Practice) Act, 2025, and ratified the decisions taken in the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting held on November 7, 2025.
