ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) on Monday expelled Senator Ahmad Khan for violating the party discipline by voting in favour of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, contrary to the party’s official stance.
JUI-F issued a notification terminating Ahmad Khan’s membership after he supported the government’s amendment bill in the Senate.
A party spokesperson said the action was taken on the recommendation of JUI-F’s parliamentary leader in the Senate, Maulana Attaur Rehman, and the party’s Balochistan chief, Senator Maulana Abdul Wasey.
The spokesperson added that the central leadership has directed Ahmad Khan to resign immediately from his Senate seat.
If he fails to do so, JUI-F will approach the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to seek his disqualification from the Senate.
PTI's Saifullah Abro, JUI's Ahmad Khan vote in favour of 27th Amendment
Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Saifullah Abro announced his resignation from the Senate moments after casting vote in favour of the 27th Constitutional Amendment.
According to Abro, he voted just due to the respect of Pakistan Army.
Speaking during the Senate session, Senator Abro said, “India was defeated by the Pakistan Army. Field Marshal Asim Munir has earned global respect. I cast my vote in favour of the amendment because of the Pakistan Army and Field Marshal Asim Munir.”
Abro, who had voted in favour of the 27th Amendment, declared, “I am resigning from my seat today — please de-notify me.”
By supporting the constitutional amendment, Senator Abro went against his party’s policy.
