ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar congratulated senators on the approval of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, calling it a “historic milestone” in Pakistan’s legislative and judicial development.
Speaking to media during a break in the Senate session, Dar said the formation of a Constitutional Court was envisioned in the Charter of Democracy, and its separation from other courts marks a major institutional reform. He added that the seniority of the Chief Justice of Pakistan and all judges would remain intact under the new structure.
Dar expressed gratitude to coalition partners, independent senators, and all stakeholders for their support, emphasizing that the amendment aims to strengthen the judicial system. He noted that many countries already have constitutional courts, and Pakistan’s move aligns with international practices.

The deputy prime minister said all issues were resolved through mutual consultation, recalling that during the 18th Amendment, the name of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was changed at the request of the Awami National Party (ANP). He added that ANP has now renewed its demand to rename the province as “Pakhtunkhwa,” which will be discussed further, along with MQM’s proposed amendment on the local government system.
