PPP CEC reviews 27th Amendment draft, calls for reduced government role in Election Commission

PPP’s CEC reviewed the 27th Amendment draft, urging reforms to minimize government interference in the Election Commission and addressing constitutional court amendments with general consensus.

KARACHI (Dunya News) - The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting reviewed the proposed draft of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, briefing members on its details and implications.

According to party sources, members of the party’s legal and political committees informed the CEC about the nature of the proposed amendments and shared their recommendations. Several members expressed positive views regarding the proposed changes related to the Election Commission and constitutional courts.

Sources added that there were no major differences over the draft’s points concerning the constitutional courts, though discussions on these provisions are still ongoing.

Meanwhile, CEC members emphasized the need to eliminate flaws in the selection process of the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commission members. They recommended introducing clauses that ensure minimal government interference in the Election Commission’s affairs.
