ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The government has decided to start the sugarcane crushing season from November 15, following consultations with all provinces and the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA).
The decision was made during a meeting of the Sugar Advisory Board, chaired by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, to discuss issues related to the sugar industry and market supply.
Speaking after the meeting, Rana Tanveer Hussain said that strict action will be taken against mills that fail to begin crushing on time. He emphasised that farmers’ payments must be ensured before the start of the season.
He added that the move aims to protect farmers’ interests and ensure timely sugar supply in the market. “The government is making decisions in the best interest of farmers so they don’t get the short end of the stick,” he said, adding that timely crushing will help ease farmers’ burden and stabilize sugar prices.
