E-challan system in Gujranwala goes live

The new system will ensure capturing of violations including not wearing helmets, driving without seatbelts, and using non-standard number plates.

GUJRANWALA (Dunya News) - The Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA) has launched live E-challan system in Gujranwala, on Wednesday.

The new system will ensure capturing of violations including not wearing helmets, driving without seatbelts, and using non-standard number plates through 1,066 high-definition cameras installed across the district. Once a violation is detected under this system, challans will be issued automatically and sent to violators via mobile messages.

Briefing about new E-challan system in Gujranwala, a PSCA spokesperson said the cameras will not only assist in crime detection but also promote discipline on the roads. “Our goal is to encourage safer and more responsible driving by enforcing traffic laws through technology,” the official added.

SP Safe City Authority Gujranwala, Irfan Salhriya, stated that the system had been under testing for the past two months and is now fully operational. “From today onward, e-challans will be issued 24/7. The cameras will detect violations without any manual intervention,” he explained. SP Salhriya said, "Every driver should wear helmets, fasten seatbelts, and keep their licenses ready,the cameras will catch any violations."

Previously, over half a million vehicles were checked manually each day by wardens and patrolling officers. With the launching of e-challan system in Gujranwala, cameras will handle the bulk of monitoring, while ground teams will assist in special cases.

The authorities have warned of double fines or legal action against those who do not pay fines within the specified time.
