ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – One of the victims injured in the gas cylinder explosion at the Supreme Court canteen has succumbed to his injuries, on Wednesday.
According to details, nineteen-year-old Asad Muneeb, son of Tanveer Ahmed, was being treated at the burn center of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) after suffering severe burns in the blast. Despite doctors’ best efforts, he could not survive and passed away early today.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday in the basement canteen of the Supreme Court building during repair work on the central air-conditioning system. The explosion, believed to have been caused by a gas leak, left 12 people injured and caused panic across the court premises.

The powerful blast damaged furniture in the canteen, shattered the glass of the Bar Association’s reception area, and even affected Courtroom No. 6 located nearby. Rescue teams and security personnel rushed to the scene shortly after the explosion, evacuating staff, lawyers, and visitors to safety.
According to Islamabad Inspector General, a gas leak had reportedly persisted in the canteen for several days. The blast occurred while maintenance workers were repairing the AC unit. One AC technician sustained burns on 80 percent of his body.
The Supreme Court administration has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and assured full support for the victims and their families.
