ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will embark on a one-day visit to Azerbaijan this Saturday, diplomatic sources confirmed on Monday.
According to officials, the Pakistani premier will participate in Azerbaijan’s Victory Day celebrations, which commemorate the country’s military success in regaining territories from Armenia in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The event will be held in Baku, where Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is also expected to be present.
Sources indicated that during his stay, Prime Minister Sharif is scheduled to meet Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, senior Azerbaijani leadership, and Turkish President Erdoğan. The discussions are expected to cover bilateral ties, regional cooperation, and potential joint initiatives.
Diplomatic officials further revealed that President Ilham Aliyev is likely to visit Pakistan in the coming months, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen political and economic relations between the two countries. The last meeting between Shehbaz Sharif and Aliyev took place in September on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, China.
Victory Day in Azerbaijan is observed to commemorate the liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh and the country’s victory over Armenia in the 2020 conflict. Both Pakistan and Türkiye had extended strong diplomatic and political support to Azerbaijan during the war, further deepening their trilateral ties.
