KARACHI (Dunya News) - The Sindh Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department has announced an extension of the deadline for vehicle number plate replacement.
As per details, motorists now have until December 31, 2025, to obtain the new, security-featured Ajrak-themed number plates.
The previous deadline for replacing old plates expired on October 31, 2025. The decision to extend the timeline was made in response to requests from vehicle owners who had faced delays in obtaining the new plates due to high demand and supply constraints.
According to official data, approximately 6.5 million motorcycles are registered across Sindh, with over 3.3 million of them in Karachi alone. Excise officials highlighted a persistent issue where many individuals purchase motorcycles but fail to register them under their own names, continuing to use the vehicles on open letters, a practice that violates motor vehicle regulations.
The department emphasized that the new number plates include modern security features designed to curb vehicle theft, improve law enforcement tracking, and ensure compliance with registration laws.
Citizens have been urged to complete the replacement process before the new deadline to avoid penalties.
