PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has reaffirmed Pakistan’s stance for peace and stability during his visit to Peshawar, according to the military's media wing.
Addressing a Jirga of tribal elders on Thursday, the Army chief underscored that Pakistan seeks peaceful relations with all neighbouring countries, including Afghanistan, but warned that the country would not allow cross-border terrorism to be launched from Afghan territory.
During his visit, the top general was received by Commander Peshawar Corps and later given a detailed briefing at Headquarters 11 Corps. The briefing focused on the prevailing security situation, operational readiness, and ongoing counter-terrorism operations designed to maintain peace along the Pak-Afghan border, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
Jirga in Peshawar
While addressing the Jirga, the Army chief commended the tribal communities for their unwavering and unconditional support to the security forces, particularly during the recent standoff between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban. He lauded the resilience and sacrifices of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who have been at the forefront of Pakistan’s decades-long war against terrorism.

They also expressed appreciation for the Army chief’s candid discussion and reaffirmed that extremist ideologies, including that of the Fitna Al Khwarij, have no acceptance among the tribal population.
Firm message to Kabul
In his remarks, Field Marshal Munir stressed that while Pakistan continues to advocate for peace, its patience should not be mistaken for weakness. He pointed out that despite repeated diplomatic and economic overtures extended by Islamabad in recent years, cross-border terrorism from Afghanistan has continued. These overtures were aimed at strengthening Pak-Afghan relations and fostering regional cooperation.
The top military commander highlighted that, rather than taking firm action against terror outfits such as the Indian-sponsored proxies Fitna Al Khwarij and Fitna Al Hindustan, the current Afghan Taliban regime has been extending support to these groups. He made it clear that Pakistan will not tolerate such activities and will defend its territorial integrity against all threats emanating from foreign soil.
Pledge to cleanse Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Reiterating the nation’s resolve, Field Marshal Munir assured the tribal elders that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other affected regions will be completely purged of terrorist networks and their facilitators. He noted that Pakistan’s security forces remain committed to eradicating terrorism in all its forms, ensuring lasting peace and stability in the border regions.
The interaction concluded with mutual reaffirmations of trust and cooperation between the military leadership and tribal representatives. The elders praised the Army’s efforts for peace and pledged their continued support to the state’s counter-terrorism mission.
