Polling underway on vacant senate seat from KP

The total number of members in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly is 145 and 73 votes are required to win the vacant Senate seat

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - Polling for the by-election on a general seat of the Senate from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was underway on Thursday, Dunya News reported.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, the polling will take place in the building of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 9:00AM to 4:00PM.

The seat had fallen vacant following the disqualification of Shibli Faraz. The Election Commission has completed all necessary arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the polling process. Provincial Election Commissioner Saeed Gul will serve as the Returning Officer.

Three candidates are in the run for the vacant seat include Taj Muhammad Afridi, Khurram Zeeshan, and Irfan Saleem. Two candidates, Abid Khan Yousafzai and Nisar Khan, have withdrawn from the contest.

The total number of members in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly is 145 and 73 votes are required to win the vacant Senate seat. The ruling PTI has 92 members in the KP Assembly while the opposition has 53.
