3 children dead, 9 missing as rescue boats overturn in Jalalpur Pirwala, Alipur

Another incident occurred in Alipur tehsil, Muzaffargarh, where boat with over 10 people overturned

JALALPUR PIRWALA (Dunya News) – Flood devastation continues in Punjab, where in the latest incidents, boats carrying flood victims capsized, leaving at least 3 people dead and 9 missing.

The body of a young man was recovered from Multan.

Boat accidents

In Khan Bela and Mohana Sandeela, boats carrying flood victims capsized. In Mohana Sandeela, a 4-year-old boy died, 18 people were rescued, and a search is underway for 9 missing. In Khan Bela, a boat with 20 people capsized, killing a 2-month-old baby.

Another incident occurred in Alipur tehsil, Muzaffargarh, where a boat with over 10 people overturned after losing balance. Fortunately, no lives were lost, and all were rescued safely.

Separately, in Bahawalnagar’s Basti Kallar Wali, a 12-year-old boy drowned in the River Sutlej.

In Noorwala, Taranda Muhammad Panah, the death toll from a boat accident rose to 8 after two more bodies were recovered. The victims included 3 children, 4 women, and a man, while the search continues for one more body.

CPO Multan Sadiq Ali Dogar said that the temporary embankment built to protect Jalalpur Pirwala is under constant pressure, and residents are being rapidly evacuated. He added that 90% of the rural areas of Jalalpur tehsil are submerged.

145 villages underwater in Bahawalnagar

At Bhakkar Pattan point in River Sutlej, high-level flooding caused breaches near Rajika, Bahadurka Sharqi, and Qasimka, flooding more areas. About 145 villages across 150 km of the river belt have been badly affected, with over 120,000 acres of standing crops destroyed. Several roads have been washed away, cutting off many villages from Bahawalnagar. Thirty-four schools in the flood belt are closed indefinitely. Food, medicine, and fodder shortages are also reported.

In Multan’s village Gardizpur, the body of 25-year-old Muhammad Jafar, who drowned two days ago while saving cattle, was recovered.
