ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Supreme Court of Pakistan has fixed the review petition of Zahir Jaffer, the convicted murderer in the Noor Mukadam case, for a hearing on Friday, September 12, 2025.
A three-member bench, headed by Justice Hashim Kakar and including Justices Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Ali Baqar Najafi, would hear the case.
Notably, this is the same bench that previously upheld Jaffer’s death sentence, against which he filed the review petition on July 10, 2025.
Noor Mukadam murder case
Noor Mukadam, a 27-year-old woman, was brutally murdered on July 20, 2021, in Islamabad by Zahir Jaffer, the son of a prominent businessman.
The gruesome crime, committed at Jaffer’s residence, shocked the nation due to its brutality, as Noor was beheaded and tortured.
Jaffer was arrested at the scene, and evidence, including CCTV footage and forensic reports, confirmed his guilt. In February 2022, a trial court sentenced him to death, a verdict upheld by the Islamabad High Court in 2023 despite appeals.
The case sparked nationwide outrage, highlighting issues of gender-based violence and privilege in Pakistan. Jaffer’s defense has repeatedly claimed procedural lapses, but courts have dismissed these arguments, citing overwhelming evidence. The review petition is seen as a final attempt to challenge the death penalty.
