LAHORE (Dunya News) - A Lahore court has summoned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for cross-examination via video link on September 12 in the Rs10 billion defamation case filed against former prime minister Imran Khan.
The case was heard by Additional Sessions Judge, who noted that no progress could be made due to the absence of Imran Khan’s lawyer. The judge instructed both parties’ counsels to appear at 10AM on the next hearing.
The defamation case dates back to 2017, when Imran Khan alleged that Shehbaz Sharif had offered him Rs10 billion to remain silent and backtrack on his stance over the Panama Papers scandal.
In July 2017, Shehbaz Sharif, then Chief Minister Punjab, filed a defamation suit against Imran Khan over the claim.
