LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released a detailed report on the damages caused by floods across the province and the relief operations underway.
According to the report, due to severe flooding in the rivers Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej, a total of 3,129 villages were affected across Punjab, impacting more than 2.48 million people directly.
PDMA stated that so far, 932,323 people have been evacuated to safe places. To accommodate and feed the displaced families, 390 relief camps have been established across the province, where 16,218 people are currently residing and being provided with food and other basic necessities.
Heavy losses along River Chenab
The most destruction has occurred in areas along the River Chenab, where 1,578 villages were affected and over 1.658 million people faced difficulties. A total of 367,742 people were evacuated from these areas, while 274,713 livestock were also shifted to safer locations. In the flood-hit areas of Chenab, 151 relief camps are operational, sheltering 4,392 people. Moreover, 155 medical camps have treated 8,437 patients so far. Flooding in the Chenab has also resulted in 36 deaths and 2 injuries.
River Ravi situation
Along the River Ravi, 1,033 villages were affected where more than 366,000 people are facing hardships. So far, 288,111 people have been evacuated, along with 217,080 livestock. In the affected areas, 109 relief camps are functional, hosting 10,710 displaced people. Additionally, 112 medical camps have provided treatment to 8,687 patients. The flooding in Ravi has caused 5 deaths and 6 injuries.
River Sutlej
According to the report, 518 villages along the River Sutlej were affected, with over 383,000 people hit by the floods. Around 276,470 people have been evacuated to safe areas, while 156,269 animals were also rescued. In Sutlej-affected areas, 130 relief camps are operating, currently sheltering 1,116 people. Furthermore, 122 medical camps have treated 12,680 patients. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported from the Sutlej flood-hit areas.
Overall relief efforts
According to PDMA, 389 medical camps are functional across Punjab, where 29,804 patients have received medical assistance. In addition, 335 veterinary camps are providing treatment for livestock.
The report confirmed that 41 people have lost their lives in Punjab as a result of the floods.
Relief Commissioner Punjab, Nabeel Javed, stated that relief operations will continue until the complete rehabilitation of flood victims. The government is utilizing all available resources to provide assistance and help the affected families return to normal life.
