Govt to launch crackdown against housing societies located near riverbanks: Rana Tanveer

He expressed these views during a visit to flood-affected areas in Sheikhupura

SHEIKHUPURA (Dunya News) - Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain said that a strategy is being devised to deal with private societies located near riverbanks.

He expressed these views during a visit to flood-affected areas in Sheikhupura on Sunday.

He stated that a devastating flood has struck after 38 years, and India released water without prior notice.

“All authorities, including the military and civil institutions, have worked together,” he added.

The Punjab government is providing animal feed, medicines, and rations to flood victims.

The minister said that both federal and provincial governments are cooperating to assist those affected by the floods.

He noted that the provincial government is preparing a strategy to take action against encroachments along river areas.

Rana Tanveer Hussain emphasized that private societies being established close to the river will be dealt with through this strategy and will be demolished.

He also highlighted that vegetable availability has decreased due to the floods.

The federal minister further stated that all provincial governments have been directed to immediately control artificial inflation.

He added that once the floodwaters recede, the losses will be assessed and a relief package will be provided.
