LAHORE (Dunya News) - The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Thursday released a report on the human losses caused by recent monsoon rains and floods across Pakistan.
According to report, a total of 884 people have lost their lives from floods and monsoon rains since June 26 while 1,181 have been injured. Among the deceased are 510 men, 135 women and 239 children, while the injured comprise 568 men, 290 women, and 323 children.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded the highest number of deaths at 489. In Punjab, 223 people lost their lives, followed by 58 in Sindh, 26 in Balochistan, and 9 in Islamabad. Meanwhile, 41 deaths were reported in Gilgit-Baltistan and 38 in Azad Kashmir.
It is pertinent to mention here that more monsoon rains are expected in Punjab from September 6 to 8, and a warning has been issued regarding the worsening situation in flood-affected areas of the province. Heavy rainfall is also predicted in Sindh from September 7 to 9.
Rain is also expected in parts of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. There is an increased risk of flash floods and landslides in upper and mountainous regions. Alerts have been issued for potential landslides in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
