LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has decided to take tough measures to keep the prices of wheat, flour, and bread steady.
She made the decision while chairing a special meeting on Thursday.
The meeting decided to ban the use of wheat in feed mills. To stop the practice, Section 144 has been imposed. SDOs of PERA have also been given special powers to crack down on wheat hoarders with strict legal action.
Maryam Nawaz further ordered action against those trying to hike flour and bread prices under the excuse of recent floods. Price control magistrates have also been activated to keep a close eye on the market.
The chief minister made it clear that a 20-kg flour bag must not exceed Rs1,810 and the price of bread must remain at Rs14. “We will not allow anyone to raise flour and bread prices under the cover of floods. Hoarding wheat is nothing less than enmity with the people,” she warned.
With these strong words and actions, the Punjab government has vowed to nip the problem in the bud before it gets out of hand.
