ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - On the directive of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan has dispatched relief supplies to earthquake victims in Afghanistan through the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The powerful earthquake that struck Afghanistan on the night of August 31, 2025, claimed more than 1,400 lives.
In response, NDMA sent 105 tons of relief goods to the affected areas. The aid package included ration bags, tents, blankets, mats, and essential medicines.
The supplies were transported in five 40-foot container trucks via the Torkham border. The aid convoy departed NDMA’s warehouse in Islamabad on September 3 and was officially handed over to Afghan authorities at the border on September 4.
A handover ceremony was held at the border, where Federal Minister Amir Muqam was the chief guest. Also in attendance were Pakistan’s Consul General in Jalalabad Shafqatullah, and Consul General of Afghanistan in Peshawar Hafiz Mohibullah Shakir.
Officials from NDMA, representatives of the Afghan government, and members of the Afghan Embassy in Pakistan also participated. The Afghan Embassy expressed gratitude for the timely humanitarian assistance.
