RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) - Torrential rains in Islamabad and Rawalpindi turned roads into pools, with low-lying areas including Bhara Kahu completely submerged.
The relentless downpour caused severe urban flooding, disrupting traffic and daily life across the twin cities.
The authorities have issued evacuation alerts for areas surrounding the Nullah Lai amid rising water level.
The residents living near the banks have been instructed to relocate to safer locations as a precautionary measure.
According to official rainfall data, Islamabad’s H-8 received 98 mm, Golra 76 mm, New Katarian 63 mm, Bokra 52 mm, Saidpur 45 mm, Pirwadhai 45 mm, Shamsabad 28 mm and Gawalmandi received 5 mm rain on Monday.
At Katarian, the water level in Nullah Lai reached 15.7 feet, exceeding the pre-alert level of 15.3 feet.
A rain alert and pre-alert have been issued for the area.

Similarly, in Gawalmandi, the pre-alert level stands at 8.3 feet.
Earlier, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned that a fresh spell of heavy rainfall, expected from Monday to Wednesday, is likely to intensify the already critical flood situation across northeastern, central, and southern Punjab.
According to an alert issued by the National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC), multiple districts in Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Islamabad, are expected to be impacted by the upcoming downpours.
Murree, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala and Hafizabad face a risk of flooding from intense downpours.
Flood conditions could also worsen in Chiniot, Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Layyah, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan.
Authorities cautioned that heavy rainfall in the upper areas and an increased flow in rivers may cause flood surges at Marala Headworks, raising the risk of inundation in adjoining regions.
