Punjab shuts hundreds of schools in flood-hit districts to ensure student safety

All schools in Lahore will reopen tomorrow except 45

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab government has decided to keep schools in flood-affected areas of Lahore and other cities closed.

Lahore

All schools in Lahore will reopen tomorrow except 45, which will remain shut. According to a notification issued by DC Lahore Syed Musa Raza, 33 government and 12 private schools have been converted into relief camps. The notification lists schools in areas such as Retigan Road, Maraka, Manga, Chuhang, Shadab Colony, Saggian, Shahdara, Bund Road, Shafiqabad, Niaz Baig, Mohlanwal, and others that will stay closed.

Kasur

In Kasur, schools reopening after summer vacation have been ordered to remain closed in flood-hit areas until further notice. The CEO Education issued orders for 107 schools to stay shut — including 61 in Tehsil Kasur, 1 private school, 14 in Chunian, and 31 in Pattoki.

Narowal

Deputy Commissioner Narowal Hassan Raza announced that all educational institutions will remain closed from September 1 to 5 due to floods.

Pakpattan

In Pakpattan, 30 schools have been ordered closed due to flooding in River Sutlej. CEO Education Shazia Rafiq said 18 schools in Pakpattan and 12 in Arifwala are included, stressing that the closures aim to protect children’s safety.

Sharaqpur Sharif

In Sharaqpur Sharif, 10 schools will remain closed as per orders of DC Sheikhupura due to flooding from River Ravi.

Chiniot

In Chiniot district, 88 schools have been badly affected, including 10 in Chiniot, 33 in Lalian, and 45 in Bhawana. Water has entered 40 classrooms and damaged 10 major high schools. Five major health centers have also been flooded, suspending services. DC Chiniot Safiullah Gondal said efforts are underway to restore schools and health facilities.
