Flooding concerns rise as fresh monsoon spell brings heavy rain across Pakistan

Light showers were reported in different parts of Lahore

LAHORE (Dunya News) – A fresh spell of monsoon rains has lashed several cities across Pakistan, including Lahore, causing urban flooding, power outages, and casualties.

Light showers were reported in different parts of Lahore, while Murree witnessed intermittent heavy downpours. In Azad Kashmir, Mirpur and Bagh received torrential rain, raising the risk of flash floods in streams and seasonal nullahs.

Abbottabad, Narowal, Ferozewala, Bahawalnagar, and adjoining areas also experienced heavy rain, leading to water accumulation in low-lying areas. Multiple power feeders tripped, disrupting electricity supply in several regions.

Meanwhile, two people were killed after lightning struck in Lahore’s Kahna area, while a roof collapse in Ferozewala claimed the life of a woman and injured three others.

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in most parts of the country until September 2. Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Sindh are expected to see further downpours, while rivers Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab may face worsening flood situations. Authorities have also warned of possible urban flooding in major cities, with the NDMA issuing an alert. 

Water levels at Head Balloki on the Ravi River continue to rise, reaching 192,545 cusecs, with Head Sidhnai also seeing increases. However, flow has reduced at Shahdara Lahore and Jassar, providing some relief to Lahore city. Meanwhile, floodwaters continue to rise at Head Panjnad on the Chenab River.
