PM Shehbaz urges world to lend Pakistan a hand in climate fight

Expresses gratitude to all stakeholders

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called on the international community to step up and support Pakistan in tackling the growing challenge of climate change.

Speaking at the launch of the New Energy Vehicle Policy in the federal capital on Tuesday, the premier said Pakistan is among the countries hit hardest by climate change, despite contributing very little to global greenhouse gas emissions.

“Climate change is a battle we cannot fight alone. The world must lend Pakistan a hand if we are to weather this storm,” Shehbaz said.

He added that the new energy policy marks an important step toward eco-friendly initiatives.

Recalling the devastating 2022 floods, Shehbaz noted Pakistan suffered losses worth $30 billion. “Cloudbursts, flash floods and swollen rivers swept away homes and livelihoods, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bearing the brunt of the damage,” he said.

The prime minister expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, including the UK government, for their continued support.

On a lighter note, Shehbaz also announced that one hundred thousand laptops will soon be distributed to students purely on merit, while electric bikes are already being provided to young people.
