ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Indian High Commission has contacted Pakistani authorities for the third time, sharing updates on water flows in the Sutlej River.
According to the latest information, a high flood is developing near Ferozepur in India, which could reach the Ganda Singh Wala headworks within the next 10 to 12 hours.
Rising flood threats
India has also issued a warning regarding water discharge from the Madhopur Dam. Continuous heavy rainfall has been reported across Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan’s National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) is closely monitoring the situation round the clock. Officials have warned that within the next 48 hours, the Ravi River at Jassar could face high flood levels, with flows ranging between 80,000 and 125,000 cusecs.
Chenab under pressure
Upstream tributaries of the Chenab, including the Jammu Tawi and Munawar Tawi rivers, are witnessing increased flows. At Marala, the Chenab may rise to between 150,000 and 200,000 cusecs, reaching from medium to high flood levels. Meanwhile, the Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala could surge to between 190,000 and 220,000 cusecs, entering the category of very high flood.
Authorities have further reported that India’s Thein Dam (Ranjit Sagar) is now near full capacity, with additional water expected to be released. Flows in local nullahs including Aik, Deg, Bein, Basantar and Palkhu are also projected to rise.
NDMA’s response
On the directives of the Prime Minister, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is conducting daily high-level monsoon review meetings. The NEOC continues surveillance with all available resources, while NDMA is providing institutions with the necessary support to ensure timely preparedness and advance action for any possible emergency.
