OIC FMs call for immediate ceasefire in Gaza

Saudi Arabia's foreign minister stresses urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza

JEDDAH (Dunya News) – The OIC Council of Foreign Ministers meeting began in Jeddah on Monday, with a strong emphasis on achieving an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar represented Pakistan.

During the session, Saudi Arabia's foreign minister stressed the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza and unimpeded access to humanitarian aid. He firmly rejected the "Greater Israel" project and stated that the establishment of Jewish settlements in the West Bank is unacceptable. He emphasised the necessity of establishing an independent Palestinian state.

The Turkish FM condemned the ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza, calling the Israeli occupation plan unacceptable. He affirmed Turkey's unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their rights, expressing hope for a two-state solution. He further described the forced famine in Gaza as a crime against humanity.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, in this extraordinary session of the OIC, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan's unwavering support for Palestine and reiterate the country's principled stance. He demanded a complete Israeli withdrawal from all occupied Palestinian territories, reject any plans for total military control over Gaza and further displacement of Palestinians, and stress the urgent need for unrestricted humanitarian aid.

Dar also advocated for the restoration of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on pre-June 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as its capital.

The OIC session was attended by foreign ministers and senior officials from member states, aiming to formulate a coordinated response to Israel’s continued military aggression in Palestine, proposed plans for full control over Gaza, and the ongoing serious violations of Palestinian rights.
