ATC approves Aleema Khan's son Sher Shah's five-day physical remand

Salman Akram Raja told the court that Sher Shah was arrested 27 months after the incident

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Sher Shah, son of PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, was presented before an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in connection with the Jinnah House attack case, where the court approved his five-day physical remand.

The case was heard by Judge Manzar Ali Gill. The prosecution argued that the accused was present at the crime scene where weapons were used and was also identified in video footage.

The prosecution further stated that his social media accounts need to be recovered, requesting a 30-day physical remand.

Defense counsel Salman Akram Raja told the court that Sher Shah was arrested 27 months after the incident. He added that the accused had appeared in the same court just a day earlier with his brother when he was taken into custody.

He argued that the court had previously declared delayed arrests illegal and urged the court to dismiss the police request and discharge his client.

After reserving its verdict on the remand request, the court later announced its decision, granting police five days of physical custody of Sher Shah.

Yesterday, Shahrez, the other son of Aleema Khan, was produced before an anti-terrorism court in the May 9 case, where the court accepted the police’s request and granted an eight-day physical remand.

Shahrez Azeem was arrested from his residence in Lahore in the May 9 arson and vandalism case. He was presented before Lahore’s anti-terrorism court, where Special Judge Manzar Ali Gill conducted the hearing.

Police argued that the accused was nominated in a supplementary statement in the Jinnah House attack case. They said he was arrested a day earlier and that his phone and other belongings still need to be recovered.

Defense lawyer Salman Akram Raja questioned why it took the police 27 months to implicate him, arguing that the supplementary statement had been read in court over 1,500 times without his name ever appearing. He alleged that the arrest came immediately after Imran Khan was granted bail, calling it “clear malafide.”

Won’t bow to pressure, says Aleema

Aleema Khan said her son, husband and daughter-in-law had been together when plainclothes men and police officials detained Shershah Khan near their home. She added that the same group had earlier arrested Shahrez.

She claimed the arrests were part of a wider attempt to block Imran Khan’s message from reaching the public. “We decided long ago that we will not bow to pressure,” she said, adding that her family had grown up hearing of sacrifices made during Pakistan’s creation and were now prepared to play their part in the struggle for what she termed “real freedom.”
