Punjab to adopt Tokyo model for cleanliness drive: CM Maryam

Maryam Nawaz meets Tokyo’s first woman Vice Governor Matsumoto Akiko

TOKYO (Dunya News) - Punjab’s first woman Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz held a meeting with Tokyo’s first woman Vice Governor Matsumoto Akiko to discuss several projects of mutual interest.

During the meeting, Vice Governor Akiko congratulated Maryam Nawaz on becoming Punjab’s first woman chief minister. Both leaders agreed to strengthen ties between the women leadership of the two countries.

Maryam Nawaz reciprocated the sentiments by congratulating Matsumoto Akiko on her historic appointment. “Pakistan and Japan share a common value in empowering women in leadership roles,” she said.

She also praised Akiko's 35-year-long contribution to public service in Japan, describing it as commendable and a source of pride.

The two leaders discussed enhancing bilateral relations between Pakistan and Japan, especially focusing on collaboration between Punjab and Japanese institutions.

Key areas of discussion included joint projects in urban development, clean energy, and infrastructure.

CM Maryam expressed interest in developing a “Clean Punjab” model based on Tokyo’s successful “Clean Authority” initiative.

She emphasized Punjab’s desire to benefit from Japan’s advanced technology and experience in sectors like infrastructure, urban development, renewable energy, and clean drinking water.

Maryam Nawaz also briefed the vice governor on Punjab’s initiatives aimed at improving public transport, environmental sustainability, and women empowerment.
