Mobile internet restored in Quetta after 16 days

Other cities in Balochistan are still left out

QUETTA (Dunya News) – After more than two weeks in the dark, mobile internet services in Quetta have finally been restored following a ruling from the Balochistan High Court.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Rozi Khan Barrech and Justice Sardar Ahmad Halimi heard a constitutional petition against the suspension of mobile internet services.

During the hearing, officials told the court that services had started coming back online in Quetta, though other cities in the province are still left out.

The court had earlier directed authorities to get the internet up and running within two hours. Following the order, Quetta’s mobile data service—suspended since August 6—was switched back on after a long 16-day blackout.

The petition was filed by Khair Muhammad, Chairman of the Consumer Society, who challenged the blanket shutdown.

For residents and businesses in Quetta, the restoration comes as a huge relief, as many had been left cut off from work, studies, and basic communication.
