LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Thursday invited the renowned Japanese dairy company Morinaga to invest in the province.
During her visit to Japan, CM Maryam toured the headquarters and production plant of Morinaga, a globally recognized dairy company. She invited the company to invest in Punjab’s dairy sector, infant nutrition, bakery products, and local production of export-quality meat.
Morinaga has been serving in the global dairy industry for over 100 years and has the potential to become a key partner in the development of Pakistan’s dairy sector.
The CM also inspected the company’s research and development department, where she was given a comprehensive briefing.
In her remarks, the CM stated that she wishes to model Morinaga’s dairy experience for Punjab. She assured that the Punjab government would provide full support and facilities in every area of dairy-related investment. “As a mother, child care is a matter of personal importance to me,” she added.
During the meeting, both sides agreed to cooperate in the use of advanced Japanese machinery and technology, the breeding of healthy livestock, and the production of high-quality meat. Maryam Nawaz Sharif highlighted that Pakistan is the fourth-largest milk-producing country in the world, with Punjab contributing 60% of that production. However, she noted that 80% of Punjab’s dairy sector still relies on outdated and unscientific methods, which affects both quality and yield.
She further stated that 63% of Punjab’s population is engaged in agriculture and livestock, and a partnership with Morinaga would directly benefit this segment. “We welcome Japanese companies and aim to establish a Dairy Development and Advanced Protein Network in Punjab,” she said.
The CM also recalled that in 2017, during the tenure of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and then-Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Morinaga had previously invested in Punjab. The company’s investment in Sheikhupura was considered a flagship example of Pakistan-Japan cooperation.
She praised Morinaga’s business presence in Punjab, stating that this partnership would not only ensure the provision of quality nutrition but also boost Pakistan’s economy.
