FM Ishaq Dar reaches Kabul to attend key trilateral meeting

Discussions will be held on enhancing cooperation between Pakistan, China and Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Wednesday reached Kabul for the 6th trilateral meeting of Foreign Ministers of Pakistan, China and Afghanistan.

He is accompanied by Special Representative for Afghanistan, Ambassador Mohammad Sadiq, and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He was received by Deputy Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, Dr. Mohammad Naeem; Chief of State Protocol, Faisal Jalali; Director General First Political MoFA Kabul, Mufti Noor Ahmad; and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Afghanistan, Ubaidur Rehman Nizamani.

During the meeting, discussions will be held on enhancing cooperation between the three countries especially in trade, regional connectivity and counter terrorism domain.

DPM Dar will also hold a bilateral meeting with the Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan to discuss bilateral matters between both countries.

The last trilateral meeting among the three foreign ministers had taken place in Beijing on May 21 this year.

The Kabul moot would discuss progress on key points agreed upon by Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan. Issues related to the extension of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), peace, security, and development will come under discussion.

The issue of terrorist organisations operating on Afghan soil would also come under discussion.

Later in the evening, the Chinese foreign minister would travel from Kabul to Islamabad, where he would attend the annual Pakistan-China strategic dialogue scheduled for August 21 in Islamabad.

He is visiting Pakistan at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

The visit is part of the regular high-level exchanges between Pakistan and China to further deepen their "All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership", and reaffirm support on the issues of respective core interests.

The visit is also part of the regular high-level exchanges to enhance economic and trade cooperation, and reaffirms Pakistan and China joint commitment to regional peace, development and stability.
